Bob Marley, Nine Mile and Dunn’s River Falls

Feel the love in Nine Mile with a pilgrimage to Bob Marley’s final resting place to pay homage to the world’s greatest reggae star. Then get up close and personal with an altogether different Jamaican icon at the Dunn’s River Falls. Ordinarily, Nine Mile would be as off the beaten track as you can imagine but his devotees beat a path to worship at the birthplace of the king of reggae – and to place their heads on the rasta ‘rock pillow’ where he would rest his head in search of inspiration. Locals have been known to break into spontaneous renditions of One Love and other songs. Bob Marley was more than a legend in Jamaica and needless to say, the air is thick with emotion in Nine Mile. See the graffitied Marley hut where he grew up, the bed where he sang Is This Love and the Ethiopian-style church that is his mausoleum. Then we move from a music legend to a movie one when we arrive at the stunning Dunn’s River Falls. The waterfalls featured in Dr. No when Sean Connery and Ursula Andress (James Bond and Honey Rider) enjoyed fun and frolics in the rapids. The famous scene of Andress emerging from the water was filmed at Dunn’ River beach, which is where the river flows into the Caribbean. You can climb the falls, which extend across almost 185 metres (600 feet) and relax in the many natural mini pools that dot the different levels.
