Calpe

Well laid out, strategically positioned and guarded by a huge rock jutting out of the sea, Calpe is a most attractive resort on Spain's Costa Blanca. The rock, Penon de Ifach (now preserved as a nature reserve), is the largest in the Mediterranean and it protrudes from the sea like an enormous monster and is Calpe's most famous landmark.

There is a lovely marina area where you can hire a boat for an afternoon for a little sea excursion to the famous Peñón de Ifach. A pretty seafront promenade stretches for miles and borders 3 stunning, pristine sand beaches, all typical of lovely Costa Blanca resorts.

Burgeoning from an old fishing village, Calpe has a hugely boisterous fish auction which ensues here each afternoon and there is even a spectator gallery! A thriving market also takes place every Saturday - just the place to pick up souvenirs and trinkets.

The resort has good shops, bars and restaurants and is a lovely family holiday base. Benidorm is easily accessible by local bus if "cooler" nighlife options are in demand, or even the little local resort of Albir offers a change of scene. However, Calpe is a more laid back seaside town where families and couples enjoy some excellent local restaurants where spanking fresh fish and regional cuisine is revered. All in all, a lovely holiday destination and an absolute Costa Blanca holiday resort gem.

Remember, we have a great selection of hotels in various resorts in Costa Blanca and, with direct flights to Alicante from Ireland, the whole area is accessible.
