Getaways to Mijas - Typical and traditional in spadefuls, the village of Mijas is a dazzling white diamond in Spain's province of Andalucia. The area is known for its "white villages" due to the brilliant whitewashed exteriors of the houses and their vivid window boxes full of colourful flowers and Mijas could certainly compete for the crown of Andalucian Princess!

Pretty, picturesque and adorably twee, the village of Mijas has all the usual requisites of cobbled streets, narrow alleyways full of teeny boutiques and local craft shops and naturally, a lovely "plaza" for evening ramblas and positioned for some of the best people watching on the entire costa! The village is full of delightful restaurants showcasing excellent Spanish and Andalucian cuisine and there are plenty of little bars and cafes to dodge the hottest times of day.

Mijas has an elevated situation approx 450m above sea level and, adding to its own population of about 8.000 locals, huge numbers of tourists and daytrippers visit the "pueblo" every season. The closest town on the coast, Fuengirola, is a mere 8 km away and Malaga airport is less than 30 minutes drive. Mijas will always be popular with visitors as it is simply so romantic and beautiful, but also because locals have managed to retain the traditional way of life. Nothing is done in a hurry here. Everything is utterly relaxed and laid back.

A holiday in Mijas is both stepping back in time and it is immersing oneself in a part of Costa del Sol that is less commercial than other resorts but perhaps far more atmospheric and full of local flavour - a Spanish holiday where the strains of flamenco are borne on the hillsides.

There are no flights into Mijas, but daily flights from Ireland operate into Malaga airport on a year round basis, so access is both quick and easy.
